Abstract
517,915. Reinforced-concrete; lathing. LIGNOCRETE, Ltd., and CASE, G. O. July 5, 1938, No. 19851. [Class 20 (iv)] [Also in Group VIII] Wood rods or members for use in reinforcing concrete structures such as roads, buildings, piles, columns and slabs, or for use as laths in lath- and-plaster walls and ceilings, are soaked in a 5-10‹ Beaume solution of rock salt for about 6 hours, so that the reinforcement will not subsequently absorb water from the concrete or plaster. A suitable concrete composition for use with the wood members consists of 4 parts broken stone, 2 parts sand, and 1 part Portland cement. In the case of lath-and-plaster structures, the laths are nailed to the joists or studs after soaking in the salt solution, and the plaster composition consists of 2 or 3 parts of sand, and 1 part of Portland cement. Instead of Portland cement, alumina cement may be used. The Figure shows wood members b, c used to reinforce a concrete beam a.
