Abstract
516,275. Hard alloys. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS, Ltd., (Mallory & Co., Inc., P.R.). Dec. 16, 1937, No. 24844/39. Divided out of 513,623. [Class 82 (i)] In hard metal compositions adapted for use as contact material in circuit interrupters &c. and consisting of a refractory ingredient dispersed in a lower-melting metal, the refractory ingredient constitutes up to 75 per cent. of the composition and consists of zirconium carbide or nitride to which may be added metallic molybdenum or tungsten or their carbides ; or borides or nitrides of titanium, hafnium, vanadium, columbium or tantalum, and the metal is copper, silver or gold. Commercial zirconium nitride containing impurities such as carbon may be used. The powdered ingredients may be sintered together or the refractory ingredient may be sintered to form a porous body which is brought into contact with the molten metal.
