515,437. Ink. INTERCHEMICAL CORPORATION. June 1, 1938, No. 16381. Convention dale, June 9, 1937. Drawings to Specification. [Class 146 (iii)] [Also in Group XVI] 'Multi-colour intaglio printing is effected by means of. a series of normally solid inks of progressively decreasing melting and congealing 'points, each ink being printed at a temperature above its congealing point and below the melting point of the previously-printed ink. Immediately after printing, each ink is cooled below its congealing point by means for example of a blast of cold air, and before printing with any ink the paper may be warmed to a temperature insufficient to soften the previously-applied ink. The inks preferably melt between 150 and 200‹F., and one of the inks to be printed, particularly the last, has a congealing point substantially below its melting point. The inks are preferably of different colours, and the vehicles consist of normally solid, amorphous substances, each of which melts at approximately 15-20'F. below that of the previously applied ink. Ink vehicles suitable for four-colour printing may consist of (a) hydrogenated castor oil and gum rosin, (b) hydrogenated castor oil and abietic acid, (c) hydrogenated soya bean oil, carnauba wax, and gum rosin, and (d) hydrogenated soya bean oil and gum rosin.
