Abstract

502,561. Panoramic telescopes. BARONI, A. June 18, 1937, No. 17050. Convention date, June 18, 1936. [Class 97 (i)] A panoramic telescope comprises a prism 1 rotatable about an axis III-IV to explore in azimuth and about an axis II-III to explore in elevation, and includes means whereby the image is maintained " erect " during such exploration, i.e. orientated as it would be seen by an observer who effected such exploration with the naked eye. The prism 1 is attached to a drum 8 rotatable on a liner 9 carrying a prism 2 and integral with a tube 10 rotatable about the axis III, IV. Attached to the drum 8 is a bevel gear 16a meshing with a bevel 17 attached to a tube rotatable in the tube 10 carrying at its lower end a bevel gear 14 forming one of the crown wheels of a differential gear. The telescope proper comprises objective 4, prism 5 graticule 6 and eyepiece 7. These are attached to a rotatable tube 18 which has at its upper end the other crown wheel 15 of the differential gear. The planets 13 are attached to a housing containing the Amici prism 3. Rotations of various parts of the apparatus are thus accompanied by rotations of the Amici prism of half their value, to maintain the observed image " erect," Worm and pinion mechanisms are provided for the various adjustments. The Specification describes also a telescope in which the Amici prism is replaced by an equivalent device as described in Specification 485,055.
