Abstract
502,141. Distilling. MAIER, R. June 8, 1937, No. 11608/38. Divided out of and addition to 498,921 under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 9, 1937. [Class 82 (i)] [Also in Groups III and XI] Metals, alloys, compounds, or other solid mineral substances difficult to vaporize are distilled by vaporizing or gasefying the substance, by the method claimed in the parent Specification, in one chamber and condensing the vapour or gas in another chamber. The chambers are connected by a conduit which may be lagged or, for superheating the vapours or gases, may be heated by gas jets 4, Fig. 2, within a casing 12 surrounding the conduit 1 and having an outlet flue 3 and lagging 2. Alternatively, the conduit may be heated by an external resistance 5, Fig. 3, surrounded by lagging 2, or by an internal resistance 6, or both ; or, the conduit itself, or a conical filter 11, Fig. 6, in the conduit, may form a resistance heater ; or, a carbon arc 10 or metal arcing horns 9 or both, Fig. 5, may be provided in the conduit.
