Abstract
502,112. Gas or oil fired heat-radiating elements. GIBBONS BROS., Ltd., and WEBB, A. W. OGILVY. Sept. 15, 1937, Nos. 25037 /37 and 2143/38. [Class 51 (i)] A gas or oil fired heatradiating element comprises three tubular members mounted in spaced relation to form three intercommunicating passages, one passage being supplied with gas, another with air and the third being traversed by combustion products, air being supplied from the air passage to the third passage along the length thereof. As shown in Fig. 1, three concentric tubes 5, 6, 7 are employed to form passages 8, 9, 10 in communication. Gas is supplied through a valve-controlled pipe 11 to the inner passage 8, air through a valve controlled pipe 15 to the intermediate passage 9, and combustion products are withdrawn from the third passage 10 through the pipe 18. The pipe 6 is perforated at 17 for the admission of air to the passage 10 to effect combustion of the gas or vaporized oil. The tube 6 is flanged at its ends to engage the tube, 7. Fig. 2 shows a modification wherein air passes from the intermediate passage 9 at the inner end thereof to through openings 27 to the inner gas or oil passage 8 and also through perforations 17 to the outer passage 10. The outer ends of the tubes 22, 23 are closed by a collar 30 embraced by a clip 31. Openings 33, 34 are provided for cleaning and ignition purposes. The outer tube may be enlarged at its inner end to increase the radiating surface. The elements may be used in annealing furnaces or as immersion heaters for liquids.
