Abstract
500,804. Anti - crease treatments. DREYFUS, H., and MONCRIEFF, R. W. Aug. 17, 1937, No. 22593. [Class 15 (ii)] Textile materials comprising cellulose acetate are swollen with a 25-40 per cent aqueous solution of acetic acid, or a swelling agent of equal swelling power, impregnated with synthetic resin components. or an intermediate condensation product, dried and heated to condense the resin. The acetic acid may be added to the resin bath. Alternative swelling agents are acetone or dioxane in concentrations above 40 per cent. Suitable resins are of the urea-aldehyde type. In an example, an acetone-soluble cellulose acetate fabric is immersed in a bath containing 25-30 per cent acetic acid and 5-10 per cent each of urea and hexamethylene-tetramine, squeezed, dried and heated to 140-190‹ C., washed and dried. Specifications 485,199 and 499,196 are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification the treatment may also be applied to other water-resistant inelastic materials, e.g. materials having a basis of nitrocellulose, nitrocellulose acetate, cellulose propionate and butyrate, and other organic, inorganic or mixed organicinorganic derivatives of cellulose.
