500,001. Decorating ceramic articles. DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT VORM. ROESSLER. Jan. 20, 1938, No. 1928. Convention date, Feb. 9, 1937: [Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group IV] Ceramic articles are decorated by applying thereto; for example by spraying, a colour preparation comprising a metal oxide colouring constituent such as nickel or cobalt oxide, a cellulose ester or ether, and a solvent for the cellulose derivative, allowing the colour preparation to dry and subsequently firing the articles. Cellulose derivatives specified are nitrocellulose, acetyl cellulose, benzyl cellulose, and ethylcellulose, and' mixtures thereof. Solvents specified are ethyl lactate, ethylene glycol, butyl glycol, glycolic acid esters, diacetone alcohol, and mixtures thereof. Modifying agents such as methyl or ethyl alcohol, or acetone may be added to the preparation. The colouring preparations may be made by grinding the colouring materials with the solvent and adding to the resulting mixture the cellulose derivative preferably only shortly before use.
