Abstract

509,019. Winding yarns. TAYLOR, W. I., and WOODRUFF, A. H. Jan. 8, 1938, No. 640. [Class 120 (ii)] A mounting for a yarn package support comprises a central spindle, an end piece axially located with reference thereto and adapted to engage one end of the package support, a plunger protruding from the end of the spindle and drawn towards the latter by spring- loading means and an end plate adapted to engage the other end of the package support and radially slotted to engage the plunger and so as to be removable from the spindle, the plate being held on the spindle by an enlargement on the end of the plunger adapted. to act on the outer face of the plate. As shown, the winding spindle 1 is stationary and the end piece 9 is formed on a perforated sleeve 7 rotatably mounted on the spindle by ballbearings 6. The removable end plate 27 is formed with a radial slot 28 by which it is engaged with or removed from a plunger 20 projecting from a bore 18 in the spindle, a spring 17, disposed between a head 19 on the plunger and a cap 16 on the end of the spindle, drawing the knob or enlargement 22 on the end of the plunger and engaging the endplate 27 towards the end piece 9 so that the package support 11 is clamped between shoulders 10, 29 on the members 9, 27. The member 22 is fixed to the plunger 20 and carries a member 25 rotatably mounted therein with a conical part engaging a conical part 26 on the end plate 27, so as to centre the plate 27 on the spindle, and by pulling the knob 22 outwards the plate and support 11 may be released ; the sleeve 7 has a flared end 12 located near the inside of the support 11 to steady it as it is being mounted.
