Abstract

508,805. Speed governors. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., and LEECH, K. H. Jan. 5, 1938, No. 320. [Class 57] [Also in Groups XXIX and XXVII] In a fuel-supply controlling cylinder 5 for an internal-combustion engine, comprising a piston 1 which is connected by a rod 2 to the throttle of a carburetter or to adjustable means in a fuel pump outlet, and is subjected on one side to the pressure of a spring 12 and on the other side 17 to a controlled variable fluid pressure, an adjustable resilient stop device 15 is provided for defining the position of the piston 1 corresponding to the idling position of the engine. Preferably, the stop device comprises a loaded spring 14 co-operating with an abutment member 9 which has a relatively long screw-threaded portion 18 for engagement with the outer screw-threaded end of the cylinder 5 and is locked in any desired position by a nut 10. The member 9 may also be provided with a recessed flange 11 to locate the outer end of the spring 12.
