[Class 106 (i)] [Also in Groups VIII and XVI] In a calculating-machine having means for indicating or recording the result of a calcula. tion, a perforated record of the result is produced by a number of denominational groups of punches arranged in a single line, a punch selecting device for each group being directly coupled to an associated indicating or recording element and the arrangement being such that only one punch in each group can be selected at a time to provide a single line of perforations in the record material. The invention is described as applied to a machine having type discs 4 set by mechanism of the kind described in Specification 475,943. The type discs are adapted to impress a record strip 9 upon actuation of a platen 8 and are in mesh with totalizer wheels 11 and punch selecting drums 13. In a simple embodiment each drum carries a series of helically-spaced punches which co-operate with a movable platen. In the embodiment shown, however, the drums are each provided with a series of helically-spaced recesses to co-operate with the upper ends 27 of a denominational group of levers 25 rockable about a shaft 26 and each provided at its lower end with a punch 42. Once in each machine operation, the punch levers are released by a cam-actuated bail 33 to the action of springs 28, that lever in each group which is in alignment with a recess in the selector drum being rocked clockwise to cause its punch to perforate a record strip 44. The part of the strip in which the perforations have been made is severed by a knife 50 and falls into a shoot 54 whence it is directed by one of a series of flaps 55 into a compartment 56 associated with the flap. The flaps are linked to bell cranks 59, the vertical arms of which extend into the paths of the punch levers 25 of one denomination by which the flaps are selected and actuated. The operative flap is restored by a bail 62 rotated during each machine operation.
