Abstract
507,517. Pliers. SWAYNE, E. M. Feb. 19, 1938, No. 5266. [Class 61 (ii)] [Also in Group XXV] A tool for fixing metal bands on steel cables &c. comprising two levers 1, 2 pivoted at 3. The lever 1 is provided with a piece B by which it maybe gripped in a vice, a block D which supports two plungers 4, and slotted guides C for the pins C<1> of a toggle 5. The toggle is pivoted to the lever 1 and to links 6 jointed to the plungers 4 and is operated by the lever 2. To fix a band, a hooked blank G is placed in a half-round notch in the lever 1, so that its slot H is positioned by a snug F. The cable is then inserted and the lever 2 brought down. The band is thus bent until lugs J engage slots of lugs K and are bent over by the action of the plungers 4. The lever 2 is hollowed out at E to make it somewhat springy. The lugs J are clinched by use of a suitable tool. The cable and band can then be severed at the slot H, leaving a ferrule on each cut cable end.
