Abstract
507,475. Conveyers. CARVALLO, P. Oct. 13, 1937, No. 27889. Convention date, April 26. A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 16, 1938.] [Class, 78 (i)] [Also in Group VI] The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises apparatus for the heat treatment of food or other products in containers which are rotated during the treatment to mix the contents and improve the transfer or withdrawal of heat. The rotation may be at high speed whilst the containers are being moved along under the action of thrust members, in channels arranged in the treatment chambers, the speed of rotation being practically constant, e.g. 25-120 r.p.m, using a heating liquid at 116-130 C. The heating may be followed by cooling, the rotation of the, containers being continued. In one form, the containers 2, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), are fed by a distributer 11 to a treatment tank 7 through which they are pushed by push-rods 3, which may have contact rollers and are attached to an endless chain 4, to an outlet 12 or to an intermediate outlet 14. By closing flaps 11a, 12a, and 14a, the device may be operated in closed circuit. The tank 7 contains a fluid which is heated or cooled by a medium circulated in tubes 8 immersed therein. Where the containers are not cylindrical, they are enclosed in perforated cylindrical cages. In modifications, the conveyers path 4 may be extended over the two levels, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), or four levels, or may have the path raised to the outlet 12, Fig. 5 (Cancelled), so that discharge is effected above the level of the treating liquid. Two conveyer chains working in series, for use with two different pressure treatments, or in parallel are described. In a further form, Fig. 13 (Cancelled), the conveyer consists of a pair of endless chains 4 between which extend pusher bars 3 which may have rollers in contact with the containers which are pushed thereby along a two-level path 1 having a plurality of convolutions, or two paths, one inside the other, may be provided, operated by' two pairs of endless chains 4a, 4b, Fig. 15 (Cancelled), carrying each a set 3a, 3b, of pusher bars. In another form, Fig. 17 (Cancelled), the treatment apparatus is cylindrical, a plurality of concentric paths being provided, the inlet 11 and outlet 12 being included at any point in the inner or outer circuit; the apparatus may be operated as an open or closed circuit. The containers may be arranged to roll on the supports on the exterior in the lower part of the path and on those on the interior in the upper part of the path, the transfer being effected by a cam C, Fig. 19 (Cancelled), disposed half way up. In other forms the containers, which may be open or closed, are disposed upright or at a slight angle, the members, effecting rotation e.g. the bars 3x, Fig. 20 (Cancelled), being arranged so that their thrust is out of centre. In further forms, the containers are rotated and advanced by means of a moving cable or steel ribbon which pushes them against the track, the containers being upright and the cable 3b, Fig. 25 (Cancelled), which may be tensioned by springs 50, contacting therewith at the side, or being slightly inclined with the cable &c. acting at the side or underneath. The containers may, in another form, be guided in inclined tracks and driven by the edges of coaxial cups 3t, Fig. 30 (Cancelled). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
