Abstract
506,800. Cathode-ray tubes. McGEE, J. D. Dec. 2, 1937, No. 33299. [Class 39 (i)] A mosaic screen, especially a double-sided mosaic screen, is made by covering an insulated grid with a metallic film which extends over the interstices of the grid and then removing portions of the film covering the insulation, so as to leave the portions covering the interstices insulated from each other. The wires 4 of the grid, which may be circular, pearshaped or diamond shaped in cross-section, are coatecl first, all over or on one side, only, with an insulating enamel 5, or lithium borate or fluoride, which is evaporated on. The metallic layer 6, thick enough to be opaque to light and electrons, is deposited on one side by floating on liquid and lifting the mesh through the surface, or, as described in Specification 504,927, by first depositing a soluble film, then the metal and then dissolving the film. The portions of the metal film above the line 7, may be buffed off or be aggregated by heating the mesh wires. The metal film may be composite, comprising layers of silver and aluminium; the aluminium may be deposited in the rear side of the mesh, particularly if this side is to be scanned by a cathode ray. The screen may be made concave to prevent distortion.
