Abstract
506,380. Locking landing - gates of lifts &c. EXPRESS LIFT CO., Ltd., and ERIKSEN, J. Nov. 18, 1937, No. 31744. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] A lift cannot be started unless the landing-gate is locked. The cross-pin 2 on the sliding bar carried by the gate is pushed through the opening 3 and enters the slot 14 of the pivoted bar 4 when the latter is in the dotted line position thus swinging it counterclockwise into the full-line position in which its cam-shaped nose obstructs the opening 3. During the movement, the tail of the bar forces a lever 8, pivoted at 15, rearwardly, so that the insulated stud 10 forces the pair of spaced contacts 9 out of the path of the bar 4. On the bar 4 attaining the full-line position, the spring 16 causes the member 8 to snap back under it and thus support it, at the same time completing the contacts 7, 9 to allow the lift to be started. Energization of the solenoid 18 swings the lever 8 clockwise to free the bar 4, thus allowing the latter to be swung down into the dotted line position to release the lock when manual effort is applied to the gate. The invention may also be applied to the gates and doors of vehicles, or compartments containing high-voltage apparatus.
