505,162. Vulcanizing rubber. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. Dec. 3, 1938, No. 35301. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1937. [Class 70] Apparatus for the continuous vulcanization in a chamber by means of a heating fluid under pressure, of rubber articles of long length such as insulated cables, tubes and other articles of substantially constant cross-section, has the outlet from the vulcanizing chamber formed by an arrangement of successive chambers separated by partitions traversed with a certain amount of play by the rubber article and operating in the manner of a labyrinth packing. The inlet may be directly connected to the extruding machine or may be provided with a stuffing box or labyrinth joint. As shown, a rubber covered cable 1 is passed through a vulcanizing chamber 4 supplied with heating fluid under pressure which may be nitrogen or carbon dioxide, and provided with a jacket 5, heated, e.g. by steam. Both the inlet 2 and outlet 3 comprise a number of chambers 9 separated by partitions 10 through which the cable passes with a certain amount of play. The inlet is cooled by a water jacket 11.
