Abstract

504,959. Dart boards. ELLAM, J. A., and DAWSON, J. H. Jan. 8, 1938, Nos. 607 and 1390. [Class 132 (iii)] The board is made up of square or hexagonal pieces of wood 22 such as Sarawak cane, glued together and surrounded by a sheet metal band 12, the two ends of which overlap and are secured together. The playing areas are defined by a wire mask or by metal strips 24 inserted edgewise into the playing surface. To make the playing surface softer, a plurality of fine perforations 18, Fig. 2, are made in the end grain, and either before or after this, the surface is treated with a softening agent such as vegetable oil. Alternatively the surface may be treated with rubber solution in which case the perforations may be omitted. The board may be double sided, or it may be mounted on a base board on the back of which is a picture or plaque to be used as a wall decoration, when the board is reversed.
