[Class 44] An emergency - exit fastening comprises a single slidable member a the upper end f of which is of hook form co-operating with a loop keeper g so that both ends e, f engage by movement of member a in one direction and are released by reverse movement, release being effected by pressure on a crush-bar m one end of which is carried by a bell-crank lever h pivoted on a casing c fixed near one edge of the door. An arm of lever h which extends through a slot in the casing into an aperture d in the bolt has a ball-catch j engaging a recess in the casing wall to prevent rattle and hold the parts against accidental displacement from the locking position shown, and a V-shaped recess k co-operating with the correspondingly formed lower edge l of aperture d to prevent unauthorized release from outside by use of an inserted implement exercising upward pressure on the bolt. A form is described in which the rear face of the bolt has a recess suitably shaped to co-operate with a key inserted from outside to effect release. When applied to double doors, the second door may have a separate crush bar in line with bar m, the two bars having bevelled meeting ends so that release movement of the separate bar operates bar m.
