[Class 7 (ii)] Charging blowers f, f located on opposite sides of an engine a rotate in the same direction on transverse shafts e, each being driven from the engine crank-shaft b by separate gearing, which may comprise opposed bevels c, d. The drives preferably include clutches, e.g. hydraulic couplings g<1>, g<2> arranged in pairs to exclude axial pressure, or electrical clutches, acting on the eddy-current principle. If hydraulic couplings are used, they may each be disengaged by draining their liquid through passages in the shafts c, the blowers being controlled to work in series, or parallel, or independently.
