Abstract
494,206. Jigging - conveyers ; reciprocating motors ; cooling and drying granular materials. TRIGGS, W. W. (Traylor Vibrator Co.) Oct. 22, 1937, No. 28857. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Groups XIII and XXXV] In means for heating or cooling powdered or granular materials, the material is delivered to a surface to which is imparted vibratory movement having both a vertical and a horizontal component and at such high frequency that the material is conveyed along the surface in the form of an unstratified fluid-like bed, and the conditioning medium is supplied directly to the material while it is being conveyed. Fig. 2 shows a drying installation in which the material is treated during conveyance through a trough 30 which is supported by spring arms 61 and is jigged by a vibratory electromagnetic motor 74. Hot air from a furnace is supplied through pipes 56, 57 to longitudinal chambers 55 which communicate with the trough through pipes 58, Fig. 7, and flexible connections 59. The lower part of the trough is divided into compartments 34, 35 by a longitudinal plate 33 which projects upwardly from the bottom 32 and by transversely-extending plates 36. The latter plates support transversely-extending screen cloth clamping means 37. Screen cloth, or bottom plate, supports 38, Fig. 3, which may comprise inverted hollow bars covered with heat resisting and cushioning material, are welded to the side walls 31. The screen cloth 39 is of openwork construction, the openings being of sufficient size to permit free passage of hot air upwardly but of insufficient size to allow an appreciable amount of material to fall through. Any material which may pass through is discharged through a shoot 711. The ends of the cloth are secured to drums 41, Figs. 3 and 4, which may be rotated to tension the cloth by adjusting the screws 46. The bottoms of the spring arms 61 are mounted upon I-beams 63 provided with transverse brackets 65 which rest upon coil springs 67 carried in cups 68 on the base plates 69. The armature shaft 75, Fig. 5, of the motor 74 has a T-shaped head 76 to which trough connecting bars 77 are attached. The main frame 81 of the motor is a very heavy casting with an opening 82 adapted to receive a series of spring leaves 83 separated by spacers 87, 94. The leaves are clamped near the ends by screws 86 between bosses 84 on the main frame and plates 85. At their centres the leaves are clamped to the shaft 75 between a boss 88 and a plate 89, the latter being flexibly attached to a web 90 of the shaft by a bolt 91 surrounded by a weak spring 92. The armature 95<1>, preferably built up of laminated steel sheets, is clamped to the shaft 75. The stator 98 comprises a magnetic field core 99, preferably of laminated steel plates, and is carried on brackets 101 which are supported adjustably by bolts 102 from U-shaped brackets 97 attached to the frame 81. The stator structure includes also a pair of field coils 104 connected either in series or parallel and so wound that the two poles adjacent the armature 95<1> will be of opposite polarity. The frame 81 is supported by springs 109 resting on spaced standards 107. A spring 113 carried by a standard 112<1> supports a bracket rigidly attached to the centre of a bar 111 connecting the brackets 97. The screen cloth may be replaced by a continuous plate with struck-out louvres, or by a plurality of inclined overlapping plates. In a modification the trough is supported directly upon a pair of motors.
