Abstract
487,111. Cycle brakes. KALLOS, J. J. Aug. 16, 1937, No. 22512. Convention date, March 17. [Class 136 (i)] A back-pedalling rear-wheel brake for bicycles comprises a drum 21, which is loosely mounted on the pedal-crank spindle 20 and is adapted to be rotated through a ratchet clutch 23 on back-pedalling, the drum 21 being provided with an arm 19 formed with a depending plate having curved guide slots 17, 18 engaged by lateral extensions 15, 16 of brake levers 6, 7, which are pivoted at 5 to a support 4 secured to the fork 2. The levers 6, 7 are each formed of two relatively-slidable parts, so that their lengths may be adjusted (according to the adjustment of the chain &c.), the parts being then locked together by screws 12. The rear ends of the levers 6, 7 engage adjustable supports 13. The arm 19 is retracted by a compression spring 27 surrounding a pivoted rod. 26.
