Abstract
486,927. Gravity-separation apparatus. DORR-OLIVER CO., Ltd., and LOWE, A. S. Dec. 9, 1936, No. 33801. [Class 46] A device for scraping a settling-tank or like container comprises a movable. structure carrying scraping means formed by or incorporated in a flexible element which is normally held against longitudinal movement during the scraping operation but can be moved longitudinally on the structure to withdraw one part of the element from operative position and replace it by another. The device is shown as applied to a circular settling tank with a hopper bottom. Endless chains 18, which may serve as scrapers or have scraper blades attached thereto, are carried by frames comprising radial arms 12 and guide tubes 19, 21. These frames are attached to a feed well 16 which is supported by and rotates with a cage 10 carried by and surrounding a central column 5 through which liquid under treatment is supplied to the tank. An electric motor 7 which rotates the cage 10 is mounted at the top of the column. Any portion of the chains 18 can be brought by means of winches 24 to an exposed position for inspection or repair. Hoops of the chains extend into a central discharge sump 20. In the sump are also scrapers 23 supported by brackets 22.
