Abstract
486,506. Coin -- freed locks. B. & S. (WILLENHALL), Ltd., and HOGGINS, S. Dec. 3, 1936, No. 33162. [Class 27] Indicators.-In a coin-freed lock for a lavatory door, the outside knob A, Fig. 2, is slid, after the insertion of a coin, and rocks a lever B pivoted at b, the lever B bearing against a flange h<3>, Fig. 8, on the lock bolt H and withdrawing this to unlock the door. A slider C guided by a slot c<1> engaging a fixed pin c is pivotally connected to the lever B at b<1> and has an incline c<2> to engage an incline d on a plate D carrying an indicator plate with the words " Engaged " and " Vacant." Rocking of the lever B by the knob A causes the slider C to raise the plate D and expose the word " Engaged," the plate D being held raised by a spring - pressed lever arm N engaging under a projection d<1> on the plate D. When the door is closed, a spring returns the bolt H and the operating parts to their initial position. Rotation of an inside knob actuates a follower which engages a flange h<2> on the bolt H to open the door. A projection on the follower does not engage the lever N to release the indicator plate until the bolt H has been drawn back to substantially its full extent, thereby preventing the indicator plate from being returned to " Vacant " by inadvertent turning of the inside handle in the act of closing the door. Coin action, weight.-Normally a hook m on a lever M pivoted at j engages a projection b<2> on the lever B and prevents operation of the bolt H by the knob A. A coin engages the end m<1> of the lever M to tilt it and release the lever B. Withdrawal of the bolt allows the lever M to tilt further and discharge the coin.
