Abstract
484,827. Portable fastenings and locks. THRELFALL, A. P. Dec. 31, 1936, No. 35858. [Class 44] A portable device for securing drawers, doors, &c. comprises a wedge placed within the drawer and pulled into the space between the drawer 12 and its surround 13 by locking means external to the drawer. As shown, the wedge 11 which may be serrated, is secured to the end of a metal tape 14 which can be wound on to a drum 19, mounted in a casing 17, by worm gearing 23 operated by a removable key 27. In use, the wedge is placed within the drawer &c. and the key is operated to pull the wedge into tight engagement, the casing 17 bearing against the front of the drawer &c. The back of the casing may be flat, as shown, or recessed to accommodate moulding, &c. The wedge may be solid or formed by bending a suitably shaped sheet metal blank. A modification is described in which the tape is perforated for engagement by toothed rollers between which it is drawn. Lock means of known type may be incorporated, a barrel lock, for example, being combined with the worm so that it can be rotated only by the appropriate key. According to the Provisional Specification the strip may be wound on a spindle provided with ratchet wheel and pawl releasable by key.
