Abstract

471,011. Two-stroke engines. CREMER; C. L. Sept. 15, 1936, No. 25122. Convention date, June 9. [Class 7 (ii)] A two-stroke engine com prises cylinders 1, 2 arranged in tandem, pistons 3, 4 con nected in tandem by a trunk 5 in which are transfer passages 11 capable of bridg ing the cylinders, and a non return valve 4a in the pistor 4 for passing an air-fuel mix ture therethrough. On the up-stroke stroke, the valve 4a lifts off its seat and allows the mixture to pass from a chamber 12 into the space below the piston 4 ; by en gaging a stop-plate 15 fixed to the piston, the valve sub sequently carries the piston along with it. Meanwhile, the previous charge is being compressed in the cylinder 1. On the down-stroke, the valve closes, and the induced charge is compressed and near the end of the stroke is transferred to the cylinder 1 via the passages 11 as that cylinder is exhausting. The chamber 12 may be open to more than one set of cylinders, a non-return valve may be fitted between the chamber 12 and the carburetter, and the cylinder 2 may be of greater capacity than the cylinder 1 to provide a supercharging effect.
