Abstract

A tinplate container for foodstuffs containing sulphur compounds which normally discolour tin when the foodstuff is sterilized in contact therewith is protected by a film of tin oxide formed by anodic oxidation with an overcoating of a non-pigmented lacquer deposited electrically in a subsequent step. The coating may be preceded by electrolytic pickling as described in Specification 479,681. Specification 455,810, [Group XXXVI], also is referred to.
