479,117. Stiffening collars and cuffs. SHEPHERD. T. L. May 27, 1936, No. 15011. [Class 141] Collars or cuffs comprise an interlining or backing which consists of one or more layers of material of substantially the same area as the collar top or band or both, or substantially the same area as the corresponding part or parts of the cuff, which has or have been stiffened or stiffened and united together by treatment with a cellulosic solution or a cellulose derivative solution, the interlining or backing being superficially free from the outer facing or facings of the collar or cuff except at the edges thereof where it is secured thereto by sewing or otherwise. The stiffened backing may be formed from a blank or sheet upon which one or a number of fold lines is or are imprinted with a solution which renders the fabric or fabrics less permeable at the printed line or lines to the stiffening solution used. In a modification, and in the case of collars, the backing or interlining may be placed contiguous to or inserted between facing material which has itself been suitably stiffened.
