[Class 6 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] The tang 2 of a scythe blade is secured to the handle 5 through a ball joint, the tang being clamped in ad justed position by a bolt that passes through a passage in the ball member. The ball joint consists of a ball member 3 integral with a shoe 4 embracing the end of the handle 5 and secured theretc by bolts 6. The ball is hollow with large circular holes 7 at opposite sides and is engaged at one side by a U-shaped clamping member 8 with a central sleeve 9 projecting into one of the holes 7 and at the other by a cup-shaped clamping member 17 with a central sleeve 19 projecting into the other hole 7. The member 8 is extended outwardly to provide flanges 10 of which the lower is provided with a tongue 12 having apertures 13 in any one of which the usual lug 14 at the end of the tang 2 may be fitted. The mid-portion of the tang 2 passes through an eye 16 at the end of a bolt 15 which passes through the clamping members 8, 17 and the ball 3 and is provided with a nut 18 by which it can be caused to draw the tang 2 against the flanges 10 and to clamp the entire mounting rigidly in adjusted position on the ball 3. In modifications, the hook replaces the eye 16 or the tang is provided with a hole and an ordinary bolt is passed therethrough the head bearing against the outside of the tang ; the clamping members may be serrated or roughened and the member 17 may be dispensed with.
