[Class 129] A coffee maker comprises a brewing vessel and a valve and filter assembly enabling hot water to be held in the brewing vessel in contact with the coffee grounds as long as desired, and then filtered into a beverage receiver. The valve arrangement consists of a channelled seating plate for the perforated bottom of the brewing vessel so that the relative angular positions of these determine whether the beverage can pass into the receiver or be retained. The brewing vessel 12 has an annular series of perforations 14, and the seating plate 11 has a corresponding series of radial channels 15 which are registered with the holes 14 when it is desired to allow the beverage to pass into the receiver 10. At other times the holes 14 are blocked by the portions of the plate 11 between the channels. The two relative positions of the plate 11 are effected by rotation of the vessel 12 on which is marked an arrow 24 to be registered with either of the two indicia shown in Fig. 1. The plate 11 has an internal annular flange 18 forming a depression 17 to trap coffee grounds 26 which may pass through the holes 14. The coffee grounds in the bottom of the vessel 12 bed over the holes 14 and form a filter for the beverage.
