Abstract
476,735. Metal frame and panel constructions for cabinets, walls, and the like. ROGERS, R. H. May 8, 1936, No. 13034. [Class 20 (i)] [Also in Groups XI, XIII, and XIV] A metal frame and panel construction comprises two frame members a, b extending at an angle to each other and arranged in overlapping engagement by means of a shoulder b<1> on the member b, the front surface of the latter member being adapted to terminate at the shoulder b<1> and to lie-flush with the outer surface of the member a, and adjustable means for connecting the two members together are adapted to draw the member b in the direction of its length to bring the shoulder b into close engagement with the adjacent edge of the member a. As shown in Fig. 2, the member a constitutes the corner of a box-like frame and is of angular cross-section, and the members b are formed with the shoulders b<1> by providing set-back portions b<2> which extend over the member a and are accommodated in the recessed portions of the beaded edges k of such member. The members a, b are connected together by a bracket d which is bolted or screwed to the set-back portions b<2> of the members b and is provided with an inclined central portion f which is perforated for the passage of a screw g adapted to enter the thickened central part h of the member a. A bolt may be used in place of the screw g, the head of the bolt being received in a recess in the thickened part h of the member a, and a nut being applied to the end of the bolt on the inside of the inclined part f of the bracket d. The inclined part f of the bracket d and the inclined ends b<3> of the parts b<2> of the members b have clearance from the thickened part h of the member a so that, when the bracket screw or bolt is tightened, the shoulders b<1> of the members b abut against the member a. The bracket d may be provided with a cross-web m. The members b are provided midway between the upper and lower edges with a number of spaced perforated projections n or a continuous ledge provided with spaced perforations, and panelling c, which is inserted between adjacent members b, is secured in position by members o such as cotter pins or tapered splitsleeves passing through the perforations, as shown in Fig. 4. The panels may be bent so that they are flush with the outer faces of the frame members a, b. The construction described may be used for electric cooking apparatus, refrigerators, and other box-like panelled frameworks, and for metal framed and panelled wall and like structures. Specification 476,677, [Group XI], is referred to.
