Abstract
476,434. Thermal switches. BEST, F. L. June 8, 1936, No. 16021. [Class 38 (v)] A protective device suitable for a two-part electric connector for an electric kettle or like apparatus in which one part of the connector is ejected by means of a spring-pressed plunger when the temperature becomes excessive, comprises a plunger 26 normally held by fingers 24 on a retaining member 22, which is soldered at 23 to a fixed cup 20. When the solder melts, a spring 27 pushes the plunger to the right carrying the member 22 with it. The member 22 slides on a fixed tube 28 and the fingers 24 which pass through slots in this tube, by encountering the shoulders 32 at the ends of the slots are bent so as to come free from the shoulder 25 on the plunger. The plunger then moves on independently of the member 22 pushing the socket part of the connector away from the pin part. A weak spring 30 simultaneously moves the member 22 back into its original position where it is resoldered automatically. The device is then reset by pushing in the plunger, till its shoulder 25 slips past and is held by the fingers 24.
