Abstract

Asphaltic material is melted and into it is stirred a mixture of powdered casein and magnesium silicate. Common salt and sugar may also be added. The resultant product may be employed as a paving or binding material. The proportions of asphalt and magnesium silicate may each vary from 10 to 80 per cent of the total mass while the proportions of casein and common salt may be up to 5 per cent each. A mixture may contain 46 per cent of magnesium silicate of the total mass with casein, salt and sugar together not exceeding 1 per cent. The product may be used in paving, for general insulation and as a marine glue.
