Abstract
476,085. Frictional pocket igniters. PINGEOT, L. F. H. Dec. 18, 1936, No. 34912. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1935. [Class 75 (iii)] A valve 9 at the bottom of a tube 1 is opened to supply gaseous fuel from the container 2 to a burner nozzle 25 or 42, on swinging upwardly the pivoted flint-tube 11, or an operating arm 32. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a hollow plunger 8 is raised by springs 10, 13 to engage a conical opening 20 in the tube 11, the valve 9 being opened simultaneously by the spring 13. The opening 20 communicates with the nozzle 25 through a tube 24, brazed or soldered to the tube 11, or through an annular or other passage in the tube 11. To facilitate adjustment and replacement of the flint, the tube 11, Fig. 4, may comprise a detachable screw-on part 28 carrying the flint 16 and the friction-wheel 15. In the form shown in Figs. 5 and 9, cams 46, 37 are fixed, and the friction-wheel 15 is preferably loosely mounted, on a spindle 45. The cam 46 carries the arm 32 and is formed with two flats for engagement by a spring 35 to hold the parts in either end position. The cam 37 controls a solid plunger 8 adapted, when raised, to close the upper end of the tube 1 at 44 but allow gas to pass to the nozzle 42. A pin 38 on the cam 37 co-operates with a peripheral notch 41 in the loosely-mounted friction-wheel to rotate the latter when gas issues from the nozzle 42. The fuel may be compressed gas, such as hydrogen, or a liquid fuel, such as butane. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that the igniter shown in Figs. 5 and 9 may be modified to form a wick-type igniter, the wick being placed in the tube 42 and the cam 37 being replaced by a rotary element provided with a wick-cap. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
