[Class 46] [Also in Groups XVII and XXIX] Comprises means to prevent the delivery with liquid, such as gasolene, drawn from a storage tank, of a heavier non-miscible liquid impurity, such as water, and consists of a chamber 8 connected to the lowest point of the tank; or a point adjacent to it, and containing a device which in response to the difference in the density of the liquids controls an alarm signal or the operation of the discharge cock, or both, the arrangement being such that the liquid drawn from the discharge cock does not pass through the chamber 8. In the construction shown, the discharge pipe slopes down from the tank to the discharge cock 6, beyond which it extends to the chamber 8. The latter contains a float 9 which, when the chamber contains water, rises and exhibits an indicator 10 in a window 11. The water is then withdrawn by a cock 12, the float sinking in the gasolene which replaces it. Fig. 2 shows means for preventing the operation of the discharge cock when the chamber contains water. In the position of the parts shown a ball 20 carried by a stem 3 on the float 9 comes between an abutment 13 and the end of a spring-urged lever 15, and prevents the upper end of the lever from engaging in a notch in a disc 18, secured to the valve spindle 6. On the entry of water into the chamber 8 the float rises and carries the ball clear of the lever, which then engages in the notch and prevents operation of the valve until the water is withdrawn and the float falls.
