In the manufacture of code-marked cigarettes, a web passes through printing-apparatus for applying code-marks to one edge, and then passes, code-marks uppermost, through rodforming mechanism and is so folded that the code-marks lie beneath two layers of the web. A bronze or other tobacco-colour ink is preferably used for printing the code-marks.
