[Class 37] [Also in Group XIX] A maximum-indicating pointer d is moved clockwise about its pivot i by an instrument pointer against frictional resistance caused by a band or chain g<1> passing round a drum secured to the maximum-indicating pointer d, the chain being secured at one end to a spring h and at the other g<2> to an adjustable rigid anchorage k. The frictional resistance to anticlockwise movement of the pointer d is thus greater than the resistance to clockwise movement and the said pointer cannot readily be shaken anticlockwise by vibration to give a reading less than the true maximum. A relatively stiff spring may be inserted between the end g<2> and the anchorage k. Specification 370,543 is referred to.
