[Classes 75 (i) and 126] The gas or vapour supply to an atmospheric burner a is automatically increased or decreased by the movement of a plate d for increasing or decreasing the distance between the burner and a frying-pan s or the like. As shown, the plate d carries the burner and is raised or lowered by wedges j coacting with wedges k movable along a platform g by means of a screw shaft m engaging a nut k<3> in a crossbar k<2>, the platform being guided vertically by telescopic members e, f. The mixing-tube b slides in a slot in a front plate n on the platform g and carries a plate c<1>, working in guides n<2> on the plate n and provided with an indicator. The spring-pressed nipple regulator p is controlled by a roller p<3> thereon engaging a cam q on a rod q<1> carried by a bracket n<1> on the plate n, a hit-and-miss primary air regulator c being operated simultaneously by a link r pivoted at r<1> to the platform. The regulators p, c may be adjusted by adjusting the cam q on the rod q<1> and the pivot r<2> as by a screw-actuated slide respectively. Air inlets t in the plate n and an outlet to a flue are also simultaneously controlled by depending apertured' plates t<1> and an upstanding plate u on the plate d. Additional opposed pairs of wedges j, k may be provided and the guides e, f dispensed with. The platform g is provided with legs h, fitted with rollers h<1>, so that the apparatus can readily be withdrawn for cleaning &c. According to the first Provisional Specification, the gas cock and a rotatable primary air regulating sleeve are closed, or opened, successively step-by-step as the burner is raised, or lowered, as by means of a cam-shaft. The second Provisional Specification - describes also an arrangement in which the burner is adjusted by levers actuated by a screw shaft, the gas cock and air regulator being connected by links and levers to the platform for simultaneous operation.
