469,803. Vehicle wheels and brakes. FLEURY, R. DE. Jan. 27, 1936, Nos. 2552, 2553, and 2554. Convention dates, Jan. 28, 1935, Dec. 27, 1935, and Jan. 7, 1936. [Classes 103 (i) and 144 (ii)] A wheel having a brake drum which is adjacent to or is formed partly or wholly by the wheel-rim, is provided with cooling fins on lateral extensions of either the rim or the drum so that the fins are outside the space normally occupied by the wheel. In one construction, the fins are integral with the rim against which the brake drum is directly fitted. In Fig. 2 the fins 3 are formed on an element 2 into which is fitted the brake drum 4 and which is fixed laterally against the wheel-rim 1. The periphery of the element 2 is fluted to form air circulating channels. A further construction shows an arrangement, as shown in Fig. 2, having also fins on each side of and integral with the rim. In Fig. 9 the wheel-rim 1 is formed with cooling fins on each side rendered rigid by transverse ribs 20. Inner reinforcing tongues 21 may be provided. The rim 1 is connected to the hub by a cheek 22 having teeth 23 about which the rim 1 is cast. Pyramidal projections are formed on the extension of the rim. The modification shown in Fig. 20 comprises a rim 1 and link 30 having strengthening ribs 32, 33. Air is circulated by means of a nozzle 34 and a shell 31. The brake casing 2e is provided with fins 35, 36. The casing 2e may be outwardly displaced and formed with ribs on its periphery. Further slight modifications are shown. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a wheel, Fig. 8 (Cancelled), having a web 11 of good conducting metal provided with radiating ribs or points 3. The web 11 is rendered rigid with the hub 10 on casting by teeth 12 and carries a brake drum 4 and a tyre 15. Modifications are also shown in which cooling fins project radially towards the rim from the body of a wheel or a part secured to it so as to lie within the width of the rim. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
