Abstract

468,176. Laminated springs. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. Oct. 27, 1936, No. 29202. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1936. [Class 108 (iii)] In a laminated spring, each of the intermediate leaves is provided in each of its opposite faces with a central, longitudinally-extending channel which co-operates with a similar channel in the adjacent surface of the next leaf to form a lubricant reservoir, the end of each channel being spaced from the end of its leaf sufficiently to enable the adjacent leaf to form a closure for the channel. As shown, the lubricating channels 17 have central apertures to receive a bolt 14, the apertures being recessed to provide passages 16 parallel to the bolt and extending downwardly into an annular recess 20 in a clamping nut 15 from which recess grooves 18 lead to a grease fitting 19 on the nut. The channels 17 are substantially one-third the width of the leaves and about 0À01 inch deep. When the spring is fastened to the vehicle, its centre portion is rigidly clamped to the vehicle frame by means independent of the bolt 14.
