Abstract
467,905. Compound fabrics. EATON, F. Dec. 24, 1935, Nos. 35646 /35 and 5112/36. [Class 140] [Also in Group IX] A stiffened fabric for collars, cuffs, shirt fronts &c. comprises two or more plies interwoven together by warp or weft threads, some or all of which or of the filling yarns intermediate the plies are formed of or coated or impregnated with a thermoplastic material composed of a cellulose derivative which mav be cellulose acetate or other cellulose ethers or esters, or a blend of polyvinyl resins, such as the mixture of polyvinyl acetate and the interpolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate referred to in Specification 451,998. Heat and pressure are applied to the woven fabric to fuse the thermoplastic material and spread it throughout the fabric to stiffen this. A solvent such as acetone may be used to assist in the dispersion and of the thermoplastic material. The thermoplastic threads may be omitted at parts where the fold lines of semi-stiff collars are to be formed. Specifications 419,208 ; 458,081, [Group IX], 460,232, and 460,523 also are referred to. According to the first Provisional Specification with collars having semi-stiff tops and separate soft bands, certain parts of the former are not processed.
