Abstract

466,888. Bowden mechanism. REMING- TON RAND, Inc. Dec. 7, 1935, No. 33963. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1934. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group XIX] Consists in means for adjusting the length of the outer casing of Bowden mechanism. The outer casing 2, Fig. 1, is secured at its upper end to a cylinder 3 in which slides a plunger 4, Figs. 1, 5, loaded by a spring 6 and connected to the inner wire 7. The lower part of the casing is secured to a screwed sleeve 8, Figs. 1 and 2 having a shoulder 9 and containing a plunger 10 tc which the wire 7 is attached. The other part 12 of the Bowden casing has a cylinder 11, Fig. 1, at its lower end corresponding to cylinder 3, and through this cylinder a plunger 13 projects similarly to plunger 4. The upper end of this part of the outer casing 12 is secured to a sleeve 15, Figs. 1, 2, adapted to slide in an outer sleeve 17 into which sleeve 8 is screwed. Sleeve 15 has a collar 16 kept in position by a screwed bush 18. In assembling, the sleeve 17 is screwed over sleeve 8 until a plunger 20 connected to inner wire 14 and sliding in sleeve 15 abuts the plunger 10. The sleeves 17, 8 are then locked by a nut 21. The application of the mechanism to a tabulating machine such as that disclosed in Specification 26896/13, [Class 106 (i)], is described with reference to Figs. 7, 8 (not shown). The Bowden mechanisms are placed between the sensing pins and tabulator stops.
