Abstract

466,209. Rollers. TAYLOR, W. E., and DONAGHY, J. Oct. 23, 1935, No. 29225. [Class 42 (ii)] [Also in Group XVI] A noise-reducing platen for typewriters consists of a core 2, a cover 4, and an intermediate cushioning-body 1 which, in order to break the longitudinal continuity of the platen, is formed from a series of separate annular sections. To prevent compression by means of the reads 3, the sections may be so arranged that they do not project beyond the core. The sections may be separated by small air-spaces, or by large air-spaces which may contain cellular or other sound-deadening material, or by thin discs of asbestos or the like. For long platens, the sections may have interengaging bosses and recesses, and longitudinal stay-rods may be provided. The sections may, as described in Specification 432,611, consist of wound sheet-rubber.
