Abstract
465,086. Erecting pylons. FAURE, A., and FAURE, A. July 10, 1936, No. 19191. Convention date, May 25. [Class 20 (i)] Pylons, masts, and like structures are erected by raising sections previously positioned and assembled to allow of the insertion at the base of a previously constructed unit, joining this section to the other sections and raising the whole to receive another constructed section at the base. For this purpose a device is provided comprising a base, a lifting element on the base guides for maintaining the lifted structure vertical during lifting, and means for securing the lifted structure to the guides whilst the lifting apparatus is lowered. In one form, Fig. 2, guides 1 are erected on the base and a platform 2 is adapted to support the assembled structure and to be raised by a rope 4 passing around pulleys 3 and on to a winch 6 attached to one of the guides. Removable bolts or cross-bars are used to support the raised structure on the guides during the lowering of the platform 2. The platform may be raised by pulley-blocks disposed on each guide, by screws, racks and pinions, hydraulic lift gear, or by lever and screw operated gearing, as shown in Fig. 11, wherein the raised structure A1, A2 is supported by removable straps 20 on the platform 2 which is raised by links 17 operated by screw-and-nut gear 18, 19, the platform being hollow to surround the structure ; the guides are not shown in this Figure. In cases where a central guide or screw is used, one side of the assembled unit is positioned only after the unit is placed upon the platform or, alternatively, in the case of a central screw the screw is hinged at its base so that after the structure is raised and secured it may turn outwardly between the uprights of the guide.
