Abstract
465,032. Hair curling appliances. SOLOMON, N. L. Dec. 9, 1936, No. 33830. Convention date, July 23. [Class 131] In a hair-curler of the kind comprising a perforated tube 10, a clamp 11 pivoted thereto, and a loop 22 carrying a compressible locking member 38 adapted to engage the open end of the tube, the tube and clamp are connected to a bushing 15 and the free ends of the loop extend through a bearing 13 into a raceway 18 formed in the bushing, the arrangement being such that the tube and clamp are rotatable with the bushing relatively to the bearing and loop. The bushing 15 has oppositely disposed grooves 21 to permit the ends 25 of the loop to pass into the raceway 18, and the tube 10 is secured to the bushing by a rivet 29 which also acts as a pivot for the clamp 11. A spring 30 extending through a hole 33 in the bushing maintains the clamp in the closed position. The head 16 of the bushing is knurled so that when hair is clamped between the parts 10, 11 and the loop 22 closed and held in one hand, rotation of the bushing will wind the hair on the curler.
