Abstract

452,568. Scooter driving-mechanism. SABAEFF, C. A. A. G., 1471, McGill College Avenue, Montreal, Canada. March 4, 1936, No. 6550. [Class 136 (ii)] A scooter of the type propelled by the rider's weight applied to two alternatelyacting pedals is driven in the following manner. A transverse shaft 13, Figs. 1 and 5, is mounted on the front part of the scooter frame 1, and is connected, as by a sprocket 12 and chain 11, to a sprocket 10 on the rear wheel 9. The shaft 13 is mounted by ball bearings 14 in a bush 15 secured to the frame 1, and is driven from alternately-acting pedals 29 (pivoted at the rear on shafts 31) by straps or belts 27 engaging pulleys 23, which drive inner members 21 on the shaft 13 through wedging-ball freewheel clutches 22. Spiral springs 32 within the pulleys 23 act thereon to return the pedals to the upper position. The sprocket 12 and chain 11 are enclosed in a cover 17. In a modification, the pedals drive the shaft 13 through rack-and-pinion mechanism.
