Abstract

458,319. Change speed gearing. STROMBERG, K. A., Skarbol, Flogned, Sweden. Jan. 27, 1936, No. 20905/35. [Class 80 (ii)] Two-speed crank-bracket or countershaft gearing for bicycles and motor cycles is of the kind in which there is a direct drive through a dog clutch such as 27 and alternatively a reduced-speed drive through a countershaft train and in which coupled gears 14, 15 slidable on the countershaft 11 are connected by an intermediately-pivoted striking lever 22 so as to be slid in opposite directions in changing speed. A shaft 2 drives and a sprocket 3 is driven. The dog clutch 27 for the direct drive is conical with sloping clutch teeth like the teeth of a bevel pinion adapted to engage similar recesses in a female clutch member 7 integral with the last wheel 5 of the reducing train. The first wheel 10 of that train is fast on the shaft 2 upon which the clutch member 27 is splined.
