[Class 122 (iii)] [See also Group I] A sump filter for an internal-combustion engine comprises a wire gauze 1 provided with a margin of cork, vegetable fibre or other readily compressible material constituting a gasket adapted to form a fluid-tight joint at the crank-case junction. The margin may be two strips 2, 3 of cork with the gauze interposed and secured by adhesive or by copper eyelets 4 or steel or copper staples. Strips of vegetable fibre may be used. The cork may be formed by compressing granular cork with a binder.
