[Classes 80 (i) and 80 (iii)] A flexible cable for transmitting power or movement comprises a tension-transmitting core 1 constituted by a bundle of wires laid with comparatively great pitch, over which is wound edgewise a metal strip 3, the turns of the strip being spaced apart by a number of layers of wire 4. Parts of the edge of the strip 3 may be flattened, as at 5, to reduce friction when used in a guide tube. Gear-wheels may mesh with the helical rib and drive or be driven by the cable. An element may engage the rib between two turns thereof to give a screw-and-nut action. Specification 380,204 is referred to.
