Abstract

<PICT:0456091/III/1> <PICT:0456091/III/2> <PICT:0456091/III/3> <PICT:0456091/III/4> In effecting exothermic reactions in presence of a contact mass a part of the heat produced is absorbed by supplying the reactants at a temperature below that of the reaction and the remainder is transferred by radiation to a cooling medium in indirect heat - exchange with the mass as described in the parent Specification. The reactants may be distributed throughout the contact mass by means of perforated conduits 9 supplied by an inner conduit 10 which may be partly shielded by heat-insulating material 12 so described in Specification 414,779. The perforated outlet conduits 13 enclose a double concentric system 14, 15 for the circulation of a heat-exchange medium according to the parent Specification. Heat-conducting fins 20 may be provided on both inlet and outlet conduits as described in Specification 430,174, and the invention also includes the provision on the outlet conduits of such fins having the special forms shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 5.
