Abstract

454,565. Carpet sweepers. DEHN; F. B., 103, Kingsway, London.-(Sweeper Products Co. ; 60, Park Place, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A.) April 1, 1935, No. 10132. [Class 138 (i)] A carpet-sweeper, Fig. 2, having a hinged opening 60 in the top for removing the dustpan 56 is characterized in that the dustpan itself has an open top for removing the contents. The central brush 51 may be vertically adjustable and the dustpan may be made to move with it usually, but may also be provided for limited upward movement of the pan independently of the brush. The operation is as follows : the dustpan 56 is put in place through hinged lid 60 on to bars 54 carried by side plates 31 having projections 34 engaging springs 35 attached to the casing. The plates 31 are forced upwards and urge the brush and guiding boxes 27, Fig. 2, to the upper limit in orifices 37 in the casing. Pressure on a bail 75 forces the brush into a carpet against the springs 35. The dustpan follows the brush downwardly being carried by the plates 31. The upper ends of the dustpan are spring pressed at 70 allowing limited upward movement. Specification 454,621 is referred to.
